Biography

Yvonne Judge is the only Independent Marriage and Family Therapist in Ohio with several industry-recognized credentials including certifications in EMDR, DBT, and Clinical Hypnotherapy. Yvonne is currently pursuing her PhD and is currently a doctoral candidate researching trauma therapy and it’s impact on relationships. She is always pursuing advanced training in her field including Gottman Method, EFT, ADHD, Personality Disorders, and more. She sees clients in person in her office in Columbus, Ohio and sees clients anywhere in Ohio via online therapy using videoconferencing software. She is a Marriage and Family Therapy supervisor in the state of Ohio as well as an AAMFT Supervisor and EMDRIA Consultant.

Hi, I’m Yvonne Judge. I see myself more as a change agent than a healer. Why? Because I don’t feel that my clients are broken. The majority of people I see in my office are very successful in many areas of their lives. They may be successful at work, in business, academically, with friends, or family members. But there is often one or more things that is holding them back.

For some, it’s struggles in their romantic relationships. For others, it’s family issues. And others are succeeding in spite of the effects of trauma on their lives. Many of them have tried multiple methods to help themselves. Some have even tried therapy, but didn’t get the help they needed. They’re ready for change, but just haven’t found the thing that helps.

That’s where I come in. My goal is not to sell you therapy with me. If I’m not the right person for you, I’ll tell you. Because, face it, no one knows everything. But if I’m not your person, I want to help you find an outstanding mental health professional who is.

You don’t just want someone you can talk to. You want someone with the specific training, tools, and experience to support you in meeting your therapy goals. Whether that’s repairing a marriage, overcoming trauma, or getting ‘unstuck’ in life or at work.

To me, the key to this is to use the right tool for the job. There is an old saying, “If all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.” For that reason, I’m trained in multiple therapy models and in diagnosing and treating multiple mental health issues.

Does that mean I know how to help everyone with everything? No, but it means that I know what to do with complex cases that combine several diagnoses, issues, or personality types. It also means I know when you need a different specialist and I am more than happy to either work in tandem with another professional or to give you a referral to the right person to help you.

All that being said, I enjoy working with several populations. I love working with couples because sometimes small, simple changes can pull a relationship out of a downward spiral. At other times, the relationship issues are more complex but watching two people who love each other work to make their shared lives successful brings me joy.

I enjoy working with trauma survivors and those with PTSD, DID and BPD. Trauma can be difficult to overcome without external help. It can rear its ugly head at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected places. Many people do not realize that their symptoms such as anxiety, irritability and always being on the lookout for things to go wrong can be trauma responses.

I enjoy working with individuals with neurodivergence because I am neurodivergent. I see people on the Autism Spectrum or with ADHD not as handicapped, but as people whose minds work differently. Sometimes brilliantly so.

I would love to see you either in my Columbus, Ohio office or via online therapy. I work afternoon, evening and weekend hours and am currently accepting new clients. Feel free to contact me through the website, or by calling the main number. I am more than happy to speak with you and answer any questions you have about therapy, hypnosis, and more.

Certifications and Credentials

Professional Credentials

Gottman Method Couple Therapy

Gottman Method Couple Therapy is based on 40 years of research into why couples stay together and why they separate. Gottman Method provides coaching in relationship skills and helps the couple re-build their relationship from the ground up if needed.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) is based on over 40 years of research and has an excellent evidence base proving how well it works for couples. EFT looks at the couple’s pattern of interaction as the problem instead of the members of the couple themselves. After the pattern is identified, the therapist helps the couple change the pattern of interaction.

Prepare/Enrich

Prepare/Enrich is a method of preparing engaged couples for their impending marriage. It starts with a test that shows couples their strengths, personalities and differences. The therapist then walks the couple through the results, facilitating discussions that will help them build their best relationship.

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a method of physical stimulation that allows for the processing of traumatic memories. EMDR has many studies showing that it works for issues such as PTSD and complex trauma.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a behavioral technique that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Hypnosis allows clients to un-learn previously learned behaviors and coping skills that are no longer serving them. New habits and coping skills can be rapidly learned in hypnosis, allowing for the quick alleviation of some symptoms.

SYMBIS

SYMBIS stands for Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts. This is a faith-based premarital counseling system that starts with a test that shows couples their strengths, personalities and differences. The therapist then walks the couple through the results, facilitating discussions that will help them build their best relationship.
