Autistic or ADHD Burnout
Recover from prolonged overload, reduced capacity, exhaustion, and the consequences of pushing beyond sustainable limits.
Neuroaffirming individual therapy is available for adults with ADHD, adults on the autism spectrum, AuDHD adults, and people exploring whether neurodivergence helps explain their experiences. In-person care is available in Columbus; Chaundra also sees clients in Laurel, Ohio. Both clinicians provide telehealth throughout Ohio. Treatment focuses on reducing distress and building a life that works with your brain rather than against it.
Schedule a ConsultationMany neurodivergent adults enter therapy after years of trying harder, compensating, masking, or receiving treatment that addressed only part of what was happening. You may function well in some settings while using enormous effort to manage responsibilities, sensory demands, relationships, and emotional overload.
Neuroaffirming therapy takes your neurology seriously without assuming that every problem comes from ADHD or autism. We look at the interaction among your nervous system, environment, relationships, history, expectations, strengths, and current demands.
Recover from prolonged overload, reduced capacity, exhaustion, and the consequences of pushing beyond sustainable limits.
Understand when masking has protected you, what it costs, and where more authentic ways of functioning may be safe.
Develop practical approaches to task initiation, planning, time, transitions, routines, and competing responsibilities.
Address anxiety, rejection sensitivity, emotional dysregulation, sensory overwhelm, and nervous-system activation.
Work with the effects of chronic misunderstanding, invalidation, exclusion, relational harm, and traumatic experiences.
Integrate new information about yourself and process relief, grief, anger, uncertainty, or changing support needs.
Therapy may address executive functioning, emotional intensity, rejection sensitivity, shame, inconsistent performance, and the stress of managing systems that demand sustained attention and organization.
Care may focus on sensory needs, burnout, communication, social demands, routines, transitions, identity, trauma, and finding safer ways to reduce masking.
Autism and ADHD can create needs that appear contradictory. You may seek novelty and depend on predictability, need stimulation and become overwhelmed by it, or struggle to reconcile competing forms of regulation. Therapy can help identify patterns and supports that account for both.
A formal diagnosis is not required for therapy. We can explore your experiences without pressuring you toward a particular conclusion. When diagnostic clarity is a goal, adult autism and ADHD testing is available as a separate service.
Treatment is collaborative and based on your goals. Depending on clinical needs, care may draw from neuropsychotherapy, EMDR, somatic therapy, polyvagal-informed care, parts-informed work, family-systems approaches, strength-based treatment, and practical strategies for daily functioning.
